A Few More Ideas

As I was writing this for you, my brain went on a few tangents. I came up with a few more winter math ideas, and I remembered a few I’d done in the past (but haven’t written about before).

So, here are some more winter math activities for preschoolers:

  • Use dyed cotton ball “snowballs” to make patterns.
  • Have the children measure glass gems (“ice”) on a simple scale.
  • Research polar animals’ lengths. Assist the kids in measuring out those lengths – using Unifix cubes, rules, or even themselves!
  • Create shapes on the rug with painter’s tape. Have the kids use winter-colored blocks to create the shapes. (Check out our frozen building activities for block inspiration.)

I know sometimes winter can seem to drag on. I know I love taking the kids outside to explore nature, or even just run around on the playground. But sometimes going outside just isn’t an option. So I hope all of these math ideas keep everyone super engaged no matter where the learning takes place.
