Process-Based Valentine Art for Preschool

Let your students dive into the process with some valentine art for preschool ideas. The kids will adore expressing their love with arty valentine activities for preschoolers.

I’m really a big fan of process art. It allows students to take the lead and show off their incredible creativity! And even though process art focuses on, well . . . the process, the final product always turns out pretty great too!

And, not to mention, process art is just plain FUN! Children love toying with new art materials and techniques. I don’t think you can go with wrong with incorporating it into your classroom.

Valentine Art for Preschool

As you can tell, I’m a bit obsessed with process art. So, of course, I had to come up with a list of some of my favorite process-based art activities to do with the kids around Valentine’s Day!

While children will use new tools to create some art pieces, they will use familiar supplies with novel techniques in others. Either way, children will get a kick out of the art technique in each one.

So, let’s get started with the valentine art ideas for preschoolers!

Our Favorite Valentine Process Art

I thought I’d begin with our most favorite valentine art for preschool. These are art ideas I’ve actually done with kids, either my preschoolers or my son when he was younger.

So I can say from personal experience that they’re kid-tested and mama/teacher-approved!

Give those little fingers a great workout with our Valentine’s Day straw art. Not to mention, this will make a cute valentine for a family member!

Students will create a really cool tie-dyed effect with our coffee filter hearts. And the materials and tools we used for this craft are typically stocked up in every preschool classroom near and far!

Introduce students to a new art tool with our Valentine’s Day oil pastel art! They will love exploring the interesting effects of oil pastels in their own way!

The kids will get a kick out of using their grow motor skills to create their very own spin art hearts from Left Brain Craft Brain!

Using some interesting and unique tools, children will create a masterpiece with their marbled hearts from Natural Beach Living.

Let children use sponges to dab their favorite combination of colors onto the simple heart resist art from Mama.Papa.Bubba. For a fun twist, cut the sponges into heart shapes as well!

Students will use paint as an art medium as well as an adhesive for festive heart doilies in the simple doily heart painting from No Time for Flashcards.

The rainbow heart suncatchers from Fireflies and Mud Pies make for the perfect and most colorful valentine decoration.

Here are a few more valentine process art ideas to try with the kids. I haven’t personally tried these art projects yet, but they’re definitely on the list!

Encourage students to create interesting designs as they try out a new art technique for the crayon melt Valentine’s Day art from The Imagination Tree and The Artful Parent.

The scrape-painted valentines from Happy Hooligans will teach the children about color mixing. And they’ll really enjoy getting to crumple up tissue paper as the final touches to their work of art!

The foil valentine hearts from Teaching 2 and 3 Year Olds provide children with some great sensory input from the contrasting smooth and bumpy textures that are created as they work with the foil.

Pull out all the crafting materials you can think of and watch as the children’s creativity comes to life in a valentine collage from Stay at Home Educator.

Students will get lost in the process as they make a beautiful mess with the splatter paint hearts from Meri Cherry and A Crafty Living!

Allow students to practice the preschool concepts of shape identification and color theory as they explore the use of watercolor paints with the circle heart art from Arty Crafty Kids.

I don’t know about you, but I love using recycled materials for various projects throughout the school year. And the stuffed paper hearts from School Time Snippets do just that!

Regardless of which art activity you choose to do with students, you’ll need some materials to work with. There are certainly a few valentine-specific art supplies that will help along with your art supply staples.

So, I’ve created a list of some supplies to use with your valentine art for preschool. And you might already have some of these tucked away in your classroom somewhere.
