Spring Science Activities for Preschoolers

Spring is a fabulously exciting time of year for science activities with preschoolers! The outdoor world is coming back to life, weather is exciting, little green things are poking out of the ground. There are so many opportunities for observing, experimenting, and learning!

Flower Science

Kids love flowers, and when they start popping up out of the ground in the spring, it’s time to learn the science behind them. Through these hands-on spring science activities, your preschoolers will get a great understanding of everything flowers!

Kids naturally love to pick apart flowers into teeny tiny bits, right? So why not take advantage of this tendency by throwing a little science-learnin’ in there? While they are picking apart, you can teach them the parts of the flower with a flower dissection activity.

Pounding on flowers is simply the most fun when you are left with beautiful flower prints on fabric. This is called Hapa Zome – and kids can learn about the science of flower pigments as they make art this spring.

Rainbows are universally loved, so it will not be hard to get the kids enthused about trying all of these rainbow science ideas. They can get a feel for basic color theory while they’re effortlessly learning science concepts.

Create a rainbow on a paper towel with the kids. Children will learn about the concept of capillary action in the most beautiful of ways!

It’s a bit mind blowing the first time you realize that liquids come in different weights. This rainbow in a jar science activity will visually and clearly explain the science concept of fewer or more molecules in a liquid.
