Set up a playful Easter alphabet activity for your preschoolers or kindergartners. Be sure to grab a copy of the alphabet recording sheets at the end of the post.
This is one of those incredibly simple activities that kids (and teachers!) love so much. It’s hands-on, engaging, fun, and there’s a lot of learning taking place.
I’ve put together this Easter alphabet invitation many times over the years, and it’s always well received. You’ve likely set this up before, too. If not, I highly suggest you give it a go.

Easter Alphabet Fun in Preschool
Even though it’s technically an Easter activity, children would love it any time of the year. Those colorful plastic eggs are just so inviting, and little hands can’t help but open them up to search for surprises.
Materials for the Easter letter activity
You don’t necessarily need all of these materials, but they’re what we used this time around. Just the eggs and the alphabet manipulatives are a wonderful way to play and learn.
Plastic Easter eggs
Magnetic letters (or other small alphabet manipulatives)
Free printable alphabet recording sheet (available below)
Dry erase pockets
Dry erase markers

How to use the free Easter alphabet printable
First, decide how you want to set up the Easter egg letter play. Do you want to work on just lowercase letters, just uppercase letters, or do you want to have both uppercase and lowercase letters at play?
Next up, grab the magnetic letters you want to use. Add one letter per egg, and place all of the eggs in a basket or on a tray for the kids.
Print out the recording sheet(s) you want to make available to the children. If you want the kids to be able to take them home, just set the papers out along with markers or pencils. If you want the sheets to be reusable, laminate them or place them in a dry erase pocket along with some dry erase markers.

Once everything is set up, let the children get to it! Explain that they get to be letter detectives, and maybe challenge the kids to see if they can find every letter in the alphabet.
The kids can open the plastic eggs and identify the letters they find within. If you’re using the recording sheets with this activity, have the kids mark down the letters they find. They can do this by crossing out the letters, but I’d suggest they try writing the letters themselves.

Other ideas you might want to try
Add the Easter egg letters to a sensory bin! You could make the bin as simple as Easter grass or shredded paper. Or you could make it a more ornate Easter sensory bin.
Instead of using all of the letters in the alphabet, you could focus on the letters in the kids’ names. Or simply challenge the children to find all of the letters in their names or in friends’ names.
Add a blank piece of paper to a clipboard and let the kids record the letters they find independently, without using the recording sheet.
Instead of magnetic letters, use letter beads inside the plastic eggs. Add pipe cleaners to the invitation, and ask the kids to find the letters needed to make their names or high frequency words. Then have them string the alphabet beads together to form the words.
Turn the Easter alphabet into a scavenger hunt by hiding the plastic eggs around the classroom. Kids can work together to find the eggs and discover each letter of the alphabet. Keep track of the letters found on a large piece of chart paper.
What the kids are learning
This easy Easter alphabet activity lets the kids work on a variety of early learning skills. Of course, the main focus is on learning more about the letters of the alphabet.
Fine motor skills are being practiced as the children open and close the plastic eggs, as well as when they’re recording the letters they’ve found.
Depending on any other ideas you try, this activity could also involve sight words, sensory exploration, and more.
