You can incorporate the September number cards into your classroom in so many different ways. Yes, of course they can be used with your calendar. BUT they’re also perfect for exploring so many early math skills with kids, from number identification to one-to-one correspondence and beyond.
The calendar numbers correlate to all kinds of September themes, as well. They’d fit in well with topics such as back-to-school, fall, leaves, acorns, and such. There are even a few free printable calendar headings to grab at the end of this post.

Of course, I’m of the opinion you don’t have to have matchy-matchy everything. So you can also grab the printable numbers just because, too!
And, really, you don’t have to only use them in September. No one’s going to come by and shake their finger at you if you want to use them in November instead.
September Calendar Numbers
This is a collection page for you to find just the right calendar numbers for the month of September. That means there are a few links listed below. Read through them and then click on the links you’re most interested in. You can get the free printable numbers on each of the individual pages (usually at the bottom).
Please keep in mind that the numbers might be slightly different sizes. Most of them are about 3 inches by 3 inches, but some might be 2.5 inches square. You can adjust your printer settings to print the September calendar numbers smaller or larger, depending on your needs.

These bus calendar numbers are great for back-to-school time, and you can use them during a transportation theme, too.
Use the crayon calendar numbers to welcome the kids back to school. They’d be great when you’re chatting about how to use school supplies as well.
If you teach an apple unit, the apple calendar numbers are for you. There are red, yellow, and green versions of course.
The fall calendar numbers have acorns and leaves. I like to use them when we’re chatting about the changing seasons and fall trees. They’d work well if you teach a unit on squirrels, too.
International Talk Like a Pirate Day falls on September 19 every year. If you celebrate the day with your students, the pirate number cards at the end of our exploding treasure chests post are a must-have.
Now, the question is which of the number cards are you going to use this September? You can always grab each of them so you have them ready for next year, too!
How to Prep Calendar Numbers for September
It doesn’t take much to get the September number cards ready to go. First, download them to your computer. Then open them in the most up-to-date version of Adobe Reader. Next, print out the September calendar numbers you plan to use. After that, cut and laminate the cards. Then everything is ready to go.
In addition to being easy-to-prep, the numbers don’t require many materials. Here’s what we used (I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post):
You can always use a paper cutter if you prefer, as well as an edge-rounder. That’s completely up to you! Depending on the September calendar numbers you choose, you might want to also grab some matching loose parts or math manipulatives. And that’s about it!
Oh, and don’t forget to grab the September calendar extras at the bottom of this post! You’ll find:
- A few September header choices
- Days of the week cards
- Year cards from 2022 to 2031
You can prep the extra calendar pieces the same way as you do the calendar numbers.
Learning with Number Cards
One of the things I really like about the various September calendar numbers are how multi-functional they are. Use the numbers as part of your linear or traditional calendars. Or incorporate them into math lessons, math activities, and math centers.

If you’d like a few additional ideas to get you started, here you go:
- Have the kids choose a card at random to determine line-up order.
- Use multiple number cards to create patterns.
- Measure to see how tall each child is using the calendar numbers as reference.
- Challenge the children to put the cards in numerical order.
- Use the cards as cues for number formation practice.
How do you plan to use the September calendar numbers in your classroom?
