These button Christmas crafts are the perfect additions to your Christmas activities for preschoolers! There are many ideas that kindergarten and elementary kids will get a kick out of, as well. You won’t feel left out either, as I know adults who enjoy making Christmas crafts with buttons.
I love how creative each of the button Christmas projects is, and I’m sure your students will too. Plus, the crafts let children practice multiple early learning skills! Amid all of the fun and creativity, children are practicing fine motor skills and math.
The button crafts make delightful keepsakes for the kids and their loved ones. And they make wonderful decorations, both in the classroom and at home.

Button Christmas Crafts
Below you’ll find over 20 crafty Christmas projects that utilize buttons. Since this is a collection of ideas, there are links that lead to each of the crafts. The links are underlined and in blue. Supplies for the Christmas Button Projects
Let’s chat about materials first. I always recommend taking stock of the supplies you have on-hand first. See if any of the craft projects can be made with what you already have.
Of course, if you’re looking for a reason to head to the craft shop, I won’t stop you! Find your favorite button Christmas crafts, make a list, and go shopping. Here are some of the items you might want to pick up (I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post):
- Buttons (surprise surprise!)
- Christmas-themed buttons
- Ribbon or yarn
- Glue
- Googly eyes
- Cardboard
- Styrofoam trees
- Kid-friendly needles
Those are just some of the materials used in the projects below. But having a stash of them will allow you and the kids to make tons of Christmas projects together!
Christmas Ornaments Made with Buttons
Because I have over 20 button Christmas crafts to share with you, I broke them up into two categories. That way, it’s easier to find what you want! Let’s kick things off with ornaments the kids can make using buttons (and other crafty supplies, of course).

Button Crafts for Christmas
Now it’s time for the button Christmas crafts that aren’t ornaments! While they might not fit on the tree, these button craft projects are still awesome decorations kids can make. I think they’d be perfect up in the classroom during the holidays.
