Try these pumpkin art projects with the kids this fall. They’re perfect as part of your preschool pumpkin activities. Or just because they’re fun!
Use the pumpkin art activities to inspire creativity in your students and teach them a few new art techniques along the way. Most of all, let them explore with a variety of mediums without fear of “doing it wrong.”
In addition to creativity, these pumpkin-themed art ideas let kids practice a multitude of other early skills. So what are you waiting for? Let’s take a look at the fall art fun!

I know I mentioned a pumpkin theme above, but you don’t have to pen yourself in when planning. The pumpkin art ideas would work well during a general fall unit, when discussing fruits and vegetables, or even as a precursor to a trip to the pumpkin patch.
These art projects would be great for kids of varying ages. Preschool and kindergarten kids will definitely get a kick out of them. And I think the pumpkin art would also be fun to try with older elementary children.
What Skills are the Kids Practicing with the Pumpkin Art?
As I already mentioned, the pumpkin art projects let kids practice a variety of early learning skills. While I’m definitely of the mind that art is awesome for art’s sake, it’s also nice to touch on the skills being explored.
Here are a few such skills:
- Creativity
- Problem solving
- Decision making
- Color identification
- Color theory
- Risk taking
- Counting
- Fine motor
- Gross motor
- Symmetry
- Measurement
- Force and motion
- Gravity
While that’s not an exhaustive list, it’s a good start! So if you’re every questioned about all the art fun you have, don’t be shy about extolling all of the benefits.
Are there any additional skills you think I need to add to this list?
