The cookies and milk calendar numbers are such a fun option when it comes to calendar numbers this winter! They’re very low-prep and super versatile, as well as being engaging for the kids.
The cookie number cards are the perfect size for your classroom calendar. And they double as a tool for practicing so many early math skills with your students. They make a unique addition to your Christmas activities for preschoolers and kindergarten kids.
I think the cookies and milk number cards would be great as part of a baking unit, too. However you plan to incorporate them into your lesson plans, the kids will get tons of math practice with them.

Milk and Cookies Calendar Numbers
If you’re not a huge fan of having daily calendar time with your students, no problem! The cookies and milk number cards can be used in so many different ways in the preschool classroom.
In this post, you’ll learn how to best prepare the number cards. Then you’ll find some activity ideas for using the cookies and milk calendar numbers with the kids.
How to Prep the Cookie Number Cards
Before getting started, grab all of the supplies you’ll need to prepare the number cards. This list is short and sweet. Here’s what I usually use when preparing calendar numbers for the kids (I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post):
And that’s really all you need to get the numbers ready for your students!
While you’re gathering materials to prepare the cards, be sure to pick up anything you’d like to use with them. Of course, that will change based on the activities you choose. But here are a few ideas to get you started:

After you’ve gathered all of the necessary materials, it’s time to prep the milk and cookies calendar numbers. Here’s what you’ll do:
- First, get the cookies and milk number cards at the bottom of this post.
- Then save the file to your computer.
- Open the file in the most up-to-date version of Adobe Reader.
- Print as many copies of the numbers as you’d like.
- Then cut the cards apart.
- Finally, laminate all the number cards.
Now you’re ready to use the holiday snack numbers with your students.
Using the Milk and Cookies Calendar Numbers
As I mentioned earlier, you can use the Santa’s cookies number cards in so many ways! Here are some of our favorite ideas:
- The first use for the number cards comes from their namesake: calendar numbers. They work well with both linear and traditional calendars. And the 3-inch square cards fit perfectly into most pocket chart calendars. Make adjustments to your printer settings for a different size.
- Pair the milk and cookies numbers with my candy cane calendar numbers. Then help the kids practice patterning.
- Have the children practice one-to-one correspondence by placing the appropriate number of manipulatives next to each card. For a fun treat, you could even use chocolate chips or mini chocolate chip cookies as the manipulatives for this activity!
- Have the children to put the numbers in order from 0 to 35. Then challenge them to put them in order from greatest to least, counting down as they go.
- Play a simple matching game, like Memory, with two sets of cards. You can either print and laminate two sets of the cookies and milk calendar numbers or use two different sets of numbers for this activity.
- Engage the kids’ senses with a sensory writing tray. First, place sand (or crushed-up cookies!) in a shallow tray. Then, set the tray out with the number cards. Finally, let the kids use their fingers (or a wrapped candy cane!) to write out the number from each card they draw.

- Measurement
- Graphing and data analysis
- Numerical order
And that’s just a few. The learning opportunities are endless and can change based on the activity. So much learning and so much fun!
