I love that the dragon number cards can be used to teach and practice so many early math skills! You can integrate them into your circle time, small group lessons, and even your center activities.
Plus, the dragon numbers are very easy to prep. You don’t need much time or many materials to have them ready to go for your students.

Dragon Calendar Numbers
I’m going to share how I get the dragon numbers ready, as well as how I often use them with children.
Please keep in mind that you can make adjustments to my directions based on your preferences and the needs of your students.
How to Prep the Dragon Number Cards
Once you have those items, consider what supplies you’d like to use in conjunction to the number cards. Here are some ideas:
- Pocket chart calendar
- Dry erase markers
- Buttons
- Math manipulatives
- Small dragon toys

Once you’ve gathered everything you need, it’s time to get the dragon numbers ready to use. Here’s what to do:
- First, request the numbers at the bottom of this post.
- Save the file to your computer.
- Open the dragon calendar numbers PDF in the most up-to-date version of Adobe Reader.
- Then print as many copies as you’d like.
- Cut the pages into individual cards.
- Finally, laminate the numbers.
And now you’re ready to use the numbered dragons with your students!
How to Use the Dragon Calendar Numbers with Kids
Oh, there are so many ways to use the dragon number cards! I love that simple printables like this one can be used in almost countless ways.
To get you started, I’ll share how I often use calendar numbers with children. Keep in mind, there are just SOME of the ways you can use the numbers:
- Use them as . . . well, calendar numbers! Add them to your traditional or linear classroom calendar. They’re 3-inch square, so be sure to adjust your printer settings if you need a different size.
- Challenge the kids to put them in order from 0 to 35 and back again. For kids just beginning to explore numbers, start smaller.
- Make two copies of the numbers, or pair them with a different set, and turn the dragon calendar numbers into a memory game.
- Put together a simple sensory writing tray (green sand would be fun!). Have the kids practice writing numbers in the sand, using the number cards as visual cues.
- Let the children practice one-to-one correspondence by placing the appropriate number of manipulatives next to each number card. Again, start smaller with kids just beginning to learn this concept.
- Grab a different set of numbers, like our bat calendar numbers, and use both sets to practice patterns with your students.
- Add the numbered dragons to a sensory bin inspired by dragons or fairy tales. The kids hunt for the numbers as they play in the sensory materials.
Again, those are just some ideas to inspire you! There are so many other ways you can use the dragon calendar numbers with kids.
What’s Included in the Printable Dragon Numbers Printable?
There are six pages included in the free dragon printable. All of the dragons are green, so the only thing that changes on each card is the number at the top.
The dragon calendar numbers run from 0 to 35. Yes, I’m aware that’s more numbers than you’ll need if using them as part of a classroom calendar. I wanted to include additional numbers so you can truly expand into other math concepts as desired.
What are the Kids Learning with the Dragon Calendar Numbers?
I know I’ve already said this multiple times, but the numbered dragons printable is so versatile! You can use the number cards to explore so many early learning skills with the children. Here are some concepts to consider:
- Number identification
- Counting
- Number formation
- One-to-one correspondence
- Patterns
- Numerical order
- Skip counting
- Addition
- Subtraction
- Graphing and data analysis
It really depends on how you plan to incorporate the dragon numbers into your classroom. This list is by no means exhaustive!
