Spring handprint art definitely needs to be added to your list of spring activities for preschoolers and kindergarten kids!
Letting kids use their hands to make heart allows them to use their creativity by seeing the potential in ordinary things, like handprints, and turning them into something spectacular. Spring-themed hand print art also lets kids use non-traditional tools to create, something many young kids love.
Spring themes and colors are so fun and vibrant, as is this collection of spring hand print art! You’ll find rainbows, insects, flowers, and even more below!

In addition to being a creative outlet, creating handprint art brings a whole host of learning opportunities. There are so many things the kids can learn and practice through hands-on art activities like the ones listed below.
Why Make Art with Kids’ Handprints?
As I just mentioned, there are a multitude of benefits that come from making spring handprint art, or hand print art of any kind.
Typically, we paint the hands to make the handprints and sometimes even let the kids continue with finger painting if they show an interest. Exploring art through paint, texture, and visual perception is a fun way for kids to develop sensory integration skills.
On top of developing sensory integration skills, handprint art is an excellent form of self-expression. I always suggest loosening up on the art prompt and letting the kids take the wheel by exploring the prompt, and creating as they see fit. Not only will this act as a form of self expression, but it will also serve to boost the imagination and creativity of your students.
These are just a few ways handprint art can be beneficial. You can also adapt the activities to work on a particular skill. Art, in general, is an incredible teacher!
Materials for the Spring Hand Print Art Ideas
When planning any preschool activity, I like to go through a few main steps. First, I write down my idea, map out the steps of the activity, and list all materials we will need.
Here are my go-to handprint art supplies, and a few that will work particularly well for spring handprint art (I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post):
- White canvases
- Construction paper
- Tempera paint
- Paint brushes
- Paper plates
- Kids Fiskars scissors
- Elmer’s glue
- Pipe cleaners
- Sequins
- Markers
- Crayons
My biggest suggestion would be to go through your supply closet. Sometimes being forced to work with the supplies I already have inspires the best art projects!
