I Spy Camping
This free printable comes with 3 pages, each with the same images. One page is for beginning I-Spy players, and the next level up has more images. The third page has more images and those pictures are arranged in various ways. Choose the page that makes the most sense for your kids.
How to Prep the Camping I-Spy Printable
First, gather the materials you need to prep the I spy camping sheet. Here’s what we used (I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post):

Once you have the supplies ready, it’s time to prep the camping scavenger hunt page. Here’s what to do:
- First, request the PDF at the bottom of this post.
- Then save it to your computer.
- Print as many copies as you’d like to use.
- Then laminate the sheets or place them in dry erase pockets if you want the pages to be reusable.
And now you’re ready to go!
How to Use the I Spy Camping Pages
Show the children the camping I spy sheet. Explain that they get to be detectives, determining how many sleeping bags, tents, campfires, and s’mores are on the page.
Then walk the children through counting how many of each item is on their page. Encourage the kids to touch each picture as they count it.

After each image is counted, work with the children to write the appropriate number in the area near the bottom of the page. And that’s it! Very simple but still fun and engaging for kids.
Depending on the ages and needs of your students, this can be done in small groups or you can place the printables out during center time.
A Few Other Ideas to Try with the Camping Printable
When it comes to finding and counting all the items on the I spy camping page, some kids might need assistance. And this is totally normal! Mostly because they might accidentally lose their place and either count images twice or miss a couple.

So here are a few ideas to help the kids as they count:
- Circle each item as they count it. Or consider using a different shape to go around each different image. For example, circle around all sleeping bags, triangle around all s’mores, etc.
- Place a small manipulative on top of each picture as it’s being counted.
- Use different color dot markers to keep track of the different images that are being counted.
- Simply mark off each item using a crayon or pencil.
If they’re using manipulatives, they can even do this in two steps! First, place the manipulatives on each coordinating picture. Then, remove the manipulatives, counting as you go. It all depends on the individual children’s needs.
What Skills are Kids Practicing with the I-Spy Printables?
As I mentioned at the beginning of the post, the I spy camping sheets let kids explore early math and literacy skills. Here are some of the specifics:
- Visual discrimination
- Counting
- One-to-one correspondence
- Number writing
The concept of visual discrimination is so important when it comes to learning to read! Helping children become attuned to the similarities and differences in objects is a precursor to learning the differences between letters.
