Goldilocks Cutting Strips

These Goldilocks cutting practice pages stand out because they are hands-on and have almost endless uses for your preschool students. The nursery rhyme theme is the cherry on top to keep kids engaged.

How to Prep the Goldilocks Fine Motor Printables

Before the fun begins, you need to gather all the materials required. Here is a list of the basic items I tend to use (I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post):

That’s it! And now for a list of suggestions for items to use with the prepped three bears fine motor pages:

Of course, you can alter this list as you see fit for your preschoolers. Don’t forget to check your existing supplies for more inspiration.

To prepare the sheets, print out the ones you’d like to use. Cut each page apart into individual fine motor strips. If you want the pages to be reusable, you can laminate them or put them inside dry erase pockets.

How to Use the Goldilocks Cutting Strips

Now that the Goldilocks fine motor printable is printed and all your materials are ready, it’s time to get started!

First, you can use the Goldilocks for cutting practice. I like using them as strips to make them easier for tiny hands to manipulate. When you present the strips individually to your preschooler, they are less likely to feel overwhelmed.

Model and remind the kids how to hold and use scissors, as needed. Then have them cut along the dotted lines, moving from left to right. You might see the children moving the Goldilocks cutting strips in different ways as they practice those scissor skills. That’s totally fine!

You can see some of my fine motor printables in practice here:

Keep in mind that you can alter this Goldilocks fine motor activity to meet the needs of you preschooler. Auto-open scissors can be a real confidence boost for those kids that struggle with this skill.

More Ways to Use the Three Bears Cutting Sheets

As I mentioned earlier, these printables are super versatile. In fact, you and your students might find additional ways to use them! But here are a few additional ideas, just in case:

  • Grab some colorful markers and let the children trace over the lines on the printable pages. You can even challenge the kids to use every color of the rainbow! A reusable version of this is to use dry erase markers on laminated Goldilocks cutting strips.
  • If your students like play dough, add that to the mix. Have the children roll out some playdough “snakes” to trace the lines with.
  • For children just starting out, consider using glitter glue over the lines on the three bears tracing pages. Once it’s dry, have your students use their fingers to gently follow the lines from left to right.
  • Use bear-themed manipulatives or loose parts to trace over the lines. Extend the activity by asking the kids to make patterns or count the manipulatives when they’re done.
