Let’s take a look!

The Mitten Book Printable

The kids will love this The Mitten printable emergent reader!

It breaks down the book into an easy reader for young children. The simple, repetitive text helps explore sight words and early literacy skills.

Bonus – it’s a great way to retell The Mitten.

Fun-A-Day readers have, too, and I love hearing how many classrooms around the world have integrated the story stones into their lessons.

I put together a free printable to go along with The Mitten story stones so it’s even easier for you to make your own! Here’s a peek:

Sequencing The Mitten Printable

Homeschool Preschool has a fun The Mitten story sequencing activity to extend the book.

I love that she includes ordinal number labels, as this book really lends itself to talking about what comes first, what’s second, etc.

The Mitten Printables from the Author

I couldn’t put together this list without sharing Jan Brett’s amazing site. She has a lot of resources for teachers and parents to use alongside her books.

One that’s perfect in this context is her put the animals in the mitten printable.

The children can color in the printable animals, and then cut out the animals and the mitten. Once that’s done, the kids can retell the story at school or at home.

Letter Mazes for The Mitten Animals

1+1+1=1 created some The Mitten letter mazes that students working on letter identification can try out.

The children have to help the animals find their way to the mitten on a path with their beginning letters (b for bear, r for rabbit, etc.). This activity would be great with dot paints, our The Mitten story stones, or small animal toys.

Flannel Board Sequencing Printable

PreKinders’ The Mitten animal cards can be used for a variety of sequencing and retelling activities.

I think her suggestion to use the cards with a flannel or felt board is perfect. She has a few other ideas for those who don’t have flannel or felt boards, too.

Even and Odd Numbers

Homeschool Creations has an even and odd number sort that’s inspired by The Mitten.

This set is perfect for those children who are secure in many early number skills and want to explore numbers even more.

Mitten Alphabet Tracing

The Letters of Literacy’s set of mitten alphabet tracing cards are great The Mitten printables to explore early alphabet skills.

The kids can use dry or wet erase markers to practice letter formation, and I think they’d be good prompts for letter writing trays too.

Printable Math Cards

These forest animals count and clip cards from The Kindergarten Connection can help children explore counting, numbers, and one-to-one correspondence.

Plus, you’ll notice those forest animals are all from The Mitten!

Pack of The Mitten Printables

Royal Baloo has a pack of printables that were created especially for this book!

There are a variety of skills involved in the pack, so she has them broken down into separate packs for younger preschoolers, pre-k, and older.
