25+ Corn Activities and Crafts for Kids

The corn activities would be great at any time of year, but they’d fit in especially well with all of your fall activities for preschoolers.

So many materials can be incorporated into play and learning for preschoolers! I like to use a combination of familiar and novelty items to keep the children engaged.

Of course, it’s also fun to use well-known materials in new and different ways. This also keeps the kids interested, and it shows them to think outside of the box.

Take corn, for example. Did you know it could be used in so many activities?!

Corn Activities for Preschool and Kindergarten

Below you’ll find a variety of learning ideas using corn, as well as more general corn-themed activities. I’ve broken them down into a few categories so you’ll have an easier time finding ideas.

These corn activities would be great as part of a corn theme during the fall, but you can also integrate into your plans at any time of the year.

Upgrade your Corn

Below we’ve listed a ton of great corn-related activities. Some use corn on the cob while others use corn kernels. The rest are focused on creating a model of corn.

They’re all great ideas. . . really! But I would be doing you a disservice if I didn’t tell you about replacing your typical dried corn with rainbow corn for these activities!

Check out our tutorial on how to dye corn for richly colored popcorn kernels. The colored maize can give an amazing burst of bright colors to some otherwise very yellow activities!

Corn Art and Crafts

I love to see how creative the kids can be, don’t you? Try some of these corn-related activities with your preschoolers. I’m sure they’ll create some absolute masterpieces.

Corn painting is such a unique and engaging because the children get to use corn cobs as paintbrushes!

Let children create their very own colorful designs with a corn mosaic.

Teach your students how to make corn husk dolls for a functional art piece that can be used in some fun dramatic play activities!

Students will love making bubble wrap calico corn just as much as parents will love to decorate with it!

Math Corn Activities

An alphabet corn sensory bin leaves room for so many teaching opportunities with your students. As an added plus, this one is super simple to set up!

Get back to the basics with a classic letter C craft. The C-is-for-corn craft will also offer some great sensory input for students.

The calico corn letter matching activity uses stickers to match letters. I happen to know that preschoolers LOVE stickers!

Maize Science

The corny fun doesn’t stop there! Kids always seem to get a kick out of engaging in and observing science experiments. Here are a few science corn activities to wow the kids.

Preschoolers will absolutely adore getting to watch the corn dance around in a hopping corn science experiment!

Which types of corn sink, and which float? Conduct the preschool corn sink or float experiment with your students to find out.

This activity covers so many preschool concepts and skills. Your students will really enjoy learning about the corn life cycle.

The kids will love checking on the progress of the sprouting flint corn every day in the easy fall science experiment.

Even More Corn Activities for Preschool
