Simple LEGO Sensory Bottle Kids Can Make

Grab some building bricks and help the kids make their own LEGO sensory bottle. It’s a great, and simple, addition to your sensory bottle ideas for the classroom!

We all know that children love to build with blocks. And more specifically – LEGO bricks. From building fine motor skills to STEM opportunities, LEGO are full of so many learning opportunities for preschoolers.

But sometimes, it can be a lot of fun to change up the activities we do with familiar objects. This LEGO sensory bottle is the perfect opportunity for kids to interact with something so familiar in a new way.

LEGO Sensory Bottle

You really can’t go wrong with LEGO. In fact, I think they are one of the best classic building toys for kids. They are so versatile that they can last an entire childhood. As children get older, their LEGO play evolves into more complex activities for their growing brains.

Not only are they amazing for building, but they really pack a punch in many other activities as well. And the LEGO sensory bottle is no exception!

So it probably doesn’t surprise you that I think LEGO are a must-have for preschool classrooms.

Materials You’ll Need

Whether you’re planning to make one for the whole classroom, or you want the kids to help make their own individual bottles, you’ll only need a few materials. I don’t know about you, but a short materials list is a plus in my book!

Here’s what you’ll need to get started making the Lego sensory bottle:

1 16.9 oz sensory bottle
1 (5oz) bottle of clear Elmer’s Glue
Water
Lego toys or blocks
Tape or hot glue (optional)

And that’s it! Now, if you’re making several sensory bottles, you will want to multiply all of the materials above by the amount of bottles you intend on making.

Of course, if you want to go in a different direction with your sensory bottle, that’s perfectly fine, too. You could use colored glitter glue or add in some liquid watercolors. What about LEGO mini figurines?! That would be super fun!

Here are some other materials that could come in handy when putting together your LEGO-themed sensory bottle:

You’ll notice our sensory bottle doesn’t use full-blown LEGO. Rather, there are some generic building bricks inside the bottle. That’s mainly because LEGO are such a hot commodity around here. So we settled on some generic blocks that don’t fit well with our other LEGO.

How to Make a LEGO Calm Down Jar

Now that you’ve gotten all the materials together, it’s time to get started! Luckily, the calm down jar with toy bricks is super simple to make. And that means the kids won’t have any problems helping out!

First things first. Start out by pouring the entire 5-ounce bottle of clear glue into the sensory bottle. If you’re anything like me and choose to buy supplies in bulk, just measure out 5 ounces into the bottle.

Next, drop in the blocks. You may want to place the LEGO pieces in one by one, or let the kids build a small structure beforehand. You’ll just have to make sure that whatever the children build fits into the bottle. You could even write the kids names, letters, or numbers on the LEGO and drop those in!

After you’ve added the bricks, fill the rest of the bottle with water. Then close the lid tightly so that it doesn’t leak.

For added security, you can seal the bottle with tape or hot glue. Sealing the bottle can help you avoid any unfortunate classroom mishaps and provides an additional layer of safety for younger kids.

Now the kids can play with the LEGO sensory bottle in any way they please. You might observe some twisting the bottle, taking note of all the colors they see. Others might shake the bottle, in an attempt to make more bubbles. Still more might move the bottle around in an attempt to make the bricks connect.

Regardless of how the children choose to play, they will certainly be getting a lot out of the activity. From color identification to conversational skills, there are so many learning opportunities rolled into this simple sensory bottle.
