If you’re a regular reader of Fun-A-Day, you already know I enjoy a good slime activity. It combines science with sensory play, and the kids just adore it! All around, a win-win in my book.
This particular slime recipe is just right for children who love playing superheroes at school (and home)! You know the ones . . . with the great imaginations and carefully plotted-out stories about rescuing their friends from tall buildings.
Of course, you can easily adapt it for other interests and preschool themes. That’s another thing I like about slime – it can be changed up for almost any topic.
Superhero Slime
Now let’s put on our capes and set to making this super fantastic slime! Yes, the capes are optional, but how fun would that be?!
Blue Confetti Slime Ingredients
First, let’s chat ingredients. You don’t really need a ton of materials to make your superhero slime. In fact, if you love making slime with the kids, you might already have most everything in your teacher supply closet.
And that’s about it. Just 4 ingredients, and you’ve got a science lesson, a sensory play experience, and an imaginative play invitation all ready to go. Not too shabby, right?
Oh, and I forgot to mention the actual superheroes. I think this slime is adaptable to any superheroes your kids are interested in. So grab some toys and add them to the slime fun.
Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
OR you can leave the superhero action figures out of it. Tell the kids THEY are the superheroes in this scenario. Again, I highly suggest some capes. And maybe masks.
How Do You Make Superhero Slime?
The slimy superhero fun starts off with our basic liquid starch slime. You just switch out the type of glue and add in some sequins. And that’s about it!
But I’ll detail it a little more below, just in case you prefer it spelled out. Keep in mind, you can use your own favorite slime recipe as the base for the superhero slime. That’s totally up to you!
First, pour the blue glue into a bowl. They’re usually found in 5 ounce bottles near me. If you don’t have blue glue, don’t stress! Pour 5 ounces of white or clear glue into a bowl. Then add blue food coloring or liquid watercolors into the glue to color it.

Next, add about 4 ounces of warm water to the bowl. You can do this by adding some water to the glue bottle and eye-balling it. Or you can use a measuring cup. Mix well.
After that, add about 4 ounces of liquid starch to the bowl slowly. Stir as you add the starch. Keep stirring until the slime starts forming and pulling away from the bowl.
Test the slime and see if you like the consistency. Add a little bit of water if it’s too stiff, a little bit more liquid starch if it’s too sticky.
Next comes a very important step. You don’t want to skip this one! KNEAD the slime. Yes, just like bread dough. Talk about a hand strengthening activity! I tend to knead slime for about two or three minutes until it’s just the way I like it (which is stretching but not sticky).
Finally, work in the superhero sequins. Then let the kids play, play, play!
Play and Learn with Slime
Oh, another thing I just love about slime is that it’s an open-ended activity. This means that there are so many different things the kids can do as they interact with their superhero slime.
Some children will love picking out the superhero glitter, while others will want to add even more in. Lots of fine motor working going on there!
Some kids will just enjoy running their hands through the slime. Keep in mind that the confetti will add an interesting texture to this slime. I think it’s an interesting juxtaposition of cool, stretchy slime with hard, sometimes pointy confetti.

Still others will want to get their superhero action figures into the slime right away. The slime will be a prop in their imaginative play as they tell stories of heroes and villains.
You can even add some tools to the slime for more possibilities. Perhaps let the kids pour slime into little produce baskets. They can lift the baskets and watch the slime seep out of the openings in the baskets. Or let the children use play dough scissors to cut the slime apart.
Like I said, there are just so many ways to play with this slime! All the while, the kids are learning, too. Here are a few concepts children can explore with slime:
- Chemical reactions
- Vocabulary
- Sensory (specifically sight and touch)
- Measurement
- Color identification
- Fine motor
Of course, playing and exploring to play and explore is important. And it shouldn’t be discounted in any way. But it’s also nice to know some of the skills “hiding” in the play.
Superhero Slime Safety
I always like to touch on safety when chatting about slime. As with all of the activities here on Fun-A-Day, slime play needs to be supervised by an adult at all times.
None of the materials, nor the final superhero slime, should every be ingested. If you have children who still put things in their mouths, consider putting the slime in sealed plastic baggies or sensory bottles.
Keep an eye out for any skin reactions, too. While I’ve never come across any, it’s still something to be aware of when making and playing with slime.
I think safety awareness helps gives kids (and adults) the parameters for tons of fun playing and learning.
