Little Miss Muffet Calendar Numbers
I love bringing nursery rhymes into the classroom. Lots of kids come to school with a familiarity of certain nursery rhymes, including Little Miss Muffet. When we base classroom activities around a subject familiar to the kids, it’s easy to get them excited about learning!
Some students, on the other hand, will come to school without any previous knowledge of Little Miss Muffet. If that’s the case, teaching the rhyme is a breeze! Start by reciting the rhyme. Then add props or let students watch videos. You might be surprised how quickly they catch on!
How to Prep the Nursery Rhyme Number Cards
Prepping the Little Miss Muffet number cards is super easy! Start by gathering the necessary materials. You don’t need much to prepare the calendar numbers. Here’s what you’ll need (I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post):
- Free Little Miss Muffet printable number cards (scroll down!)
- Printer and copy paper
- Scissors or paper trimmer
- Laminator and laminating sheets
And that’s it! That’s all you need to prep the Little Miss Muffet number cards.
If you recall, I mentioned that there are several ways to put the number cards to use. And it’s true! But your list of materials might expand or change based on how you plan to use them. Here are some suggestions based on the activity ideas listed below:
Remember, this list could change or expand based on the activities you choose for the number cards. I always suggest taking a look through your supply closet and using what you already have!
Now that you’ve got all of the materials gathered, it’s time to prep the cards. It’s super simple! Here’s what to do:
- First, request your copy of the Little Miss Muffet number cards at the bottom of this post.
- Then download the file and save it to your computer.
- Open the file in the most up-to-date version of Adobe Reader.
- Print as many sets of the cards as you’ll need.
- Then cut the number cards apart.
- Finally, laminate the numbers.
Now the Little Miss Muffet numbers are ready to use with students.
How to Use the Little Miss Muffet Calendar Numbers
Now that we have the Little Miss Muffet calendar numbers printed, cut, and laminated, they’re ready to use! The most common way to use the cards is just as the title implies – as calendar numbers!
Some teachers like to incorporate the calendar into their daily morning routine. If that’s the case for you, these cards will certainly come in handy! Have a student place the correct calendar number on the calendar each day. Then kids can reference the date whenever they need or want to.
Expand on this simple task by having students count to that particular number each day. They can even clap or hop as they count. Another way to expand learning is by having students use a marker and white board or play dough to practice forming the number of the day.
Other teachers don’t include the calendar into their daily plans. And that’s totally okay! But the Little Miss Muffet calendar numbers are still very useful. Teachers can fill their calendars with the cards at the beginning of each month. Or they can use the cards in ways that don’t relate to the calendar.
Regardless of what the classroom calendar looks like, these themed calendar numbers are a great way to add visual interest, promote conversation, and concept to build activities around!
Other Ideas for Using the Little Miss Muffet Numbers
As I’ve mentioned, there are several ways to use the Little Miss Muffet calendar numbers. The size and shape makes them perfect for calendars, but they can be used in so many different activities as well! Here are a few ideas:
- Starting with numbers 1 through 5, then 1 through 10, and progressing all the way up to 1 through 35, have students place the cards in numerical order. Add more cards as they master each smaller set. Let the kids reference a number line or chart as needed.
- Pair the cards with a set of manipulatives, like buttons. Have students select a number card. Then they will practice counting with one-to-one correspondence as they place the correct amount of buttons next to each number card.
- Let students practice number formation while meeting their sensory needs. Line a shallow sensory tray with a sensory material, like sand. Set out the tray with the set of number cards. Students will select a card and use their finger or an unsharpened pencil to write the number in the sand.
- Teach students how numbers relate to ordinals by pairing the number cards with our Little Miss Muffet free printable sequencing cards. Then they can put the rhyme in order, matching each line with the correct number.
- Print two sets of the number cards. Then use them as a matching game! Start with a small set, adding more matches as the kids get the hang of it.

As teachers, it’s our jobs to ensure that the kids engage in meaningful and enriching activities that keep them learning all year long. And I’m not, by any means, opposed to planning activities just for fun. But I’ve found that that never ends up being the case. Young children are always, always learning!
