This Halloween cut and paste printable is a fun, low-prep idea to add to your Halloween activities for preschoolers and kindergarten kids. Use it during literacy small groups or place it in your fine motor center during October.
Your students can use the Halloween-themed literacy cut and paste to practice important motor skills in a hands-on way. And it gives the kids a chance to practice a few early literacy concepts as they do so!
I love that you can use the cut and paste Halloween printable in multiple ways, too. This allows you to meet the needs of your individual students and gives you some leeway when it comes to planning.

How to Use the Halloween Cut and Paste Activity
The main way to use the Halloween beginning letters printable is right there in the name – as a cut and paste activity.
Show your students the printable pages. Explain that they need to get the Halloween pictures from one page to their “homes” on the main page. They get to do this based on the initial letter of each image.
Model how to say a word slowly, isolating the beginning sound. Then think out loud to show how to match that initial sound to a letter of the alphabet. Practice a few times with the kids, as needed.
Then let the children cut the images apart before gluing them onto the main Halloween cut and paste page. Assist your students as needed along the way.
You might want to have the kids simply place the pictures underneath the letters first, before gluing. That way, you can ensure they understand the concept and make adjustments if not.
More Ideas for the Cut and Paste Halloween Printable
You don’t have to use the printable in just one way, though! Here are a few more ideas to try with your students:
- Turn the Halloween cut and paste papers into a reusable activity. Do so by cutting the images out yourself before laminating the pictures and the main letter sorting page.
- Add a sensory aspect to the activity by placing the pictures in some Halloween sensory materials. The kids can dig through the sensory bin to locate the picture cards before sorting. Consider adding magnetic letters to the bin, too!
- Challenge your students to write the other letters in the words – you can easily adjust this based on their ages and needs.
