Using the Peppermint Number Matching Printable with Kids
For a very simple printable, you can use the candy numbers in multiple ways. First and foremost, simply have the children match up each of the individual puzzle pieces.
To do so, the children match the the left side of the puzzle to the right side. The left contains a candy jar a certain number of peppermints. The right side has a number in both numeral and written-out form.

Ask the kids to point to the number, or number word, and say it’s name out loud. Then encourage the children to point and count each peppermint on the other side of the puzzle.
You can start with just a few numbers before asking the children to complete every single peppermint number matching printable.
Other Ideas for the Peppermint Number Cards
Of course, there are other ways to use the peppermint number matching printables with your students! While the basics involve matching up the puzzle pieces, you can add a few more materials or steps to the process.
Here are a few more ideas:
- Place the puzzle pieces in a themed sensory invitation, like a candy cane sensory bin. Then challenge the kids to hunt for the pieces before assembling the number puzzles.
- Pair the puzzles with candy cane or peppermint manipulatives. Have your students place the corresponding number of manipulatives next to each completed puzzle.
- Put together a peppermint-themed sensory tray. The children can use candy canes to write the numbers in the tray after they’ve assembled the puzzles.

You can even ask the kids to make extended versions of these puzzles! The peppermint number matching printable goes from 1 to 10. So children ready to explore the teen numbers can come up with their own puzzles.
