In addition to being easy to prepare, the snowman shape puzzles can be used in a variety of ways. This means you can differentiate based on your students’ needs and your own preferences. And you can slowly introduce different shapes based on your lessons.
I think the shape cards would work well in your winter lesson plans, as part of a snowman theme, or integrated into a unit about shapes. No matter when you use them, your students are sure to have fun as they learn.

How to Use the Snowman Shape Matching Printable
The most basic way to use these shape cards is by placing them in your math center. Have your students match up the left side of each puzzle to the corresponding right side.
The snowman shape is pictured on the left side, with a simple orange-colored shape on the right side. You’ll also find the shape word above the simple shape image.

You can spice things up a little bit, of course! Consider adding the shape cards to a themed sensory bin. Here are a few material suggestions:
- Cotton balls
- Mini white pom poms
- Coarse salt
- Real or fake snow
Challenge your students to dig through the sensory materials to find each of the pieces before assembling the snowman shape matching puzzles.

You can even add some shape manipulatives to the sensory bins, too. That way, the children can match up the puzzles AND the shape manipulatives for even more shape identification practice.
Other Ideas for the Snowman Shape Matching
As I mentioned earlier, you can use the shape puzzles in so many ways! Here are a few more ideas to try:
- Have the children use small manipulatives, like mini erasers, to trace over the shapes on the cards.
- Pair the printable shapes with a sensory writing tray. Then ask your students to draw the shapes in the sensory materials.
- Let the kids use dry erase markers to draw over the shapes on the laminated cards. Be sure to chat about the characteristics of each shape while doing so.

You and your students can come up with even more ways to use the snowman cards! I always find it fun to see the unique ideas the kids come up with.
